NORAD Is Tracking Santa!

NORAD's 2012 Santa Tracker is now active. You can follow Santa Claus around the world.NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) is a joint Canadian-American airspace monitoring and alert program. NORAD began tracking Santa in 1955. The program began as a mistake.

Sears printed "Santa's phone number" in a Christmas ad.  Somebody in the advertising department messed up. The number belonged to the Director of Operations for CONAD (NORAD's predecessor), Col. Harry Shoup. He took it in stride, and had his staff give the coordinates of the North Pole to any child who called, and a tradition was born! In fact, Santa updates are still available at  1-877-HI-NORAD. Make sure the kids are in bed before he arrives!
