NOAA Revises 2012 Hurricane Forecast
We had the first tropical storm of 2012 before the "Tropical Season" officially began. There was virtually no winter in the Gulf Coast region. Water temperatures were 10 degrees above normal at the end of February.
Still NOAA predicted an "average" hurricane season. To this point, we've had four tropical storms and 2 hurricanes in 2012. forecasters now say they expect a total of 12 to 17 tropical storms, with as many as five to eight hurricanes. The previous forecast, issued in may, called for a total of 9 to 16 storms, with only two strengthening to become hurricanes. we're just now heading into the typically most active period.
The Atlantic hurricanes season is June 1 to Nov. 30.
