There are major traffic changes in the plans for the southside of Lafayette in 2019. Lafayette Consolidated Government has announced a proposed road project and is seeking the public's input.

LCG plans to widen Duhon Road from Johnston Street to Rue de Belier from two to four lanes. A roundabout would then be built at the intersection of Duhon and Rue de Belier.

This would significantly improve the traffic flow at the intersection during drive times, especially those attempting to turn left onto Duhon Road.

The project would cost LCG about $4 million. However, since Duhon Road is a state road, a public meeting must be held. That meeting was held last night.

Plans for the project will be finalized after the public hearing and public comment period. Construction would likely begin sometime in 2019.
