The mother of 16-year-old Daquentin Thompson has filed a lawsuit against the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, Emerald Healthcare Systems and some employees after her son committed suicide last year in the jail according to our news partners at KATC.

The suit alleges that he had tried to kill himself at another jail, and that he told Iberia Jail staff that he wanted to kill himself.

Yulanda Thompson is asking for unspecified damages in her federal lawsuit.

Yulanda Thompson's suit further claims the jail and Emerald didn't do a medical screening on him or get his medical records when he came to the Iberia Parish Jail.

Thompson's son was taking an anti-anxiety medication before coming there, and he had been diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  The suit claims Thompson was taken off of some of his medication.
