Most Of Us Are Wasting Money & Don’t Realize It!
American's are the hardest working people in the industrialized world, yet it seems like we don't have much to show for it. We retire later, and work longer hours than most. We also take fewer vacations, yet nearly 3/4 of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Why is that? The sad truth is we're wasting money in places most of us don't realize, and corporate interests like it that way. The Motley Fool recently published a list of 27 things you're probably wasting money on. Here are some examples:
#1 Bank fees: We spend a staggering $17 billion a year on ATM fees, and NSF charges. Many banks charge monthly account maintenance fees. I'm a member of a credit union that refunds ATM fees, and has no maintenance fees.
#2 Late fees: make a late payment on your credit card & you'll get hit for a fee up to $35. You may also get jacked up to a higher "default" interest rate.
#5 Credit card interest. Need I say more?
#8 New cars: When you drive that shiny new chariot off the lot, it immediately loses thousands of dollars in value, and you're paying interest on the original purchase price. Buy a car that's 2 or 3 years old & let someone else get beat up on the depreciation.
#10 Brand name medications. ALWAYS ask if there's a generic equivalent available.
