With the fun that comes during Mardi Gras Day, so come the traffic and the detours. And Lafayette Police want you to be aware of what will be going on.

LPD spokesman Corporal Paul Mouton says all roads in and around the parade route will be closed once the first parade begins, including the north and south bound lanes of the Evangeline Thruway at Jefferson. Drivers can detour around this intersection by traveling on Louisiana Avenue and on Willow Street.

The roadways will be re-opened after the Independent parade has passed and all pedestrian traffic has cleared.
