Maybe it's not "the curse" of 2016. Maybe it's just the fact that so many of the popular icons of our youth are getting older just as we are. Maybe that's the real reason that almost every day seems to bring sad news of the passing of a once pop culture star.

There is another celebrity passing to report. Mike Connors who was best known for his television role as private investigator Joe Mannix has died. Connors, born Krekor Ohanian in 1925 starred in that popular role from 1967 to 1975.

Before making his mark in multiple television shows and movies Connors was considered to be quite an athlete. He was a player on legendary Coach John Wooden's UCLA basketball team during his college years.

He was a California native and World War II veteran. He was nominated during his career for four Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes, winning one.

Mike Connors was 91.
