Opelousas Police arrested a man after he was tried to sell 2 fake gold bars in a car lot there. He has since been identified as 55-year-old Richard Carr of Ocala, Florida.

The would-be theft victim told authorities he was weary when Richard Carr offered him two solid gold bars for about $2,000 each. That's when he called police.

Police say Carr showed the man a website which claimed to show the gold bars were actually worth $13,000. Police Chief Donald Thompson said Carr has a long record which includes similar charges in the area and out of state.

He's being held at the Opelousas City Jail and charged with attempted felony theft. Investigators are asking that anyone else who may have bought these gold bars from Carr to contact them as soon as possible.
