The recent trend of retail stores opening on Thanksgiving night makes my blood boil! I've worked in retail. The schedules are brutal enough without depriving people of time with their families on one of the biggest holidays of the year. The popularity of online shopping has also raised questions as to its profitability. The largest mall in the US won't be open on turkey day. Officials with the Mall of America have announced the mammoth shopping venue will close for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the  Minneapolis Star Tribune. The 520 stores in the mall have the option to to open if they choose. Mall officials reportedly don't expect many will. Staffing those hours is a problem, particularly for the smaller stores. The mall will open at 5 am on "Black Friday."  Let's hope this starts a NEW trend.
