Due to flooding, a soft economy or just a need for change, the people of south Louisiana are moving out of their current real estate and opting for something different.  So what can you do to make your home sell for more?

In a realestate.com test, researchers had people check out a house that was on the market.  Over the course of the study, testers used different smells to make the home smell differently throughout the duration of the test.  They used smells like brownies, baked bread, coffee, chicken, feet and citrus.

With every smell, researchers would ask people touring the house how much they thought the house was worth.  When the house smelled like socks and feet, people thought the house was worth the least.  When researchers made it smell like citrus, participants thought it was worth the most.  Here's the breakdown on what people thought the dwelling was worth based on the different smells used.

1.  Citrus, $648,000.

2.  Brownies, $626,000.

3.  Fresh baked bread, $617,000.

4.  Coffee, $598,000.

5.  Chicken, $571,000.

6.  Socks and feet, $567,000.
