It's that time of the year again. Summertime!

With the change in weather comes an annual change in the way you're asked to conserve your water if you're an LUS customer. LUS officials say it helps them prevent low water pressure because of automated lawn watering during those peak hours of late afternoon and evening.

So, if you're a customer of LUS residential, commercial, and wholesale (Youngsville, Broussard, Milton, Scott, Water District North, Water District South), what is your schedule for watering your lawn using automated watering systems and sprinklers?

First off, Mondays are out. No one is allowed to water their lawns using a sprinkler that day.

If you are a customer with an odd-numbered home/property address (ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) you can use those sprinklers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

If you are a customer with an even-numbered home/property address (ending with 0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use those sprinklers on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

There are also time periods of when you can water your lawn on those days - from midnight to 2 p.m.

Exceptions are made for hand-watering and soaker hoses (drip irrigation), newly-planted sod, landscaping and ground cover (initial 30-day exemption, daily watering during designated time of midnight to 2 p.m. ONLY, property owner must notify LUS at 291-5743 to qualify), as well as businesses that require water to operate such as plant nurseries and commercial car washes.

Also, customers who use a water supply other than LUS (such as private wells or ponds) are exempt as well.

This schedule lasts from May 1st through September 30th.

Fines are accumulative and will stay on your record for three years.
