Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team continues postseason play on Saturday night, when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers in the opening game of a best-of-three game NCAA Super Regional series.

First-pitch is scheduled for 7 o’clock, and you can hear all the play-by-play action on Sports Radio ESPN 1420 & espn1420.com, as well as News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM, beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 pm.

Louisiana, who won the Houston, Texas Regional last weekend, going undefeated at 3-0, has won 8-straight, including 11 of their last 12, and will enter the series with an overall record of 42-21.

The Cajuns are in Super Regional play for the second-consecutive year, and the fifth time in program history.

LSU, the #2-overall national seed, marched through the Baton Rouge Regional last weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, and will enter the weekend with an overall record of 51-10, winners of 7 of their last 8.

The Tigers are appearing in their 11th Super Regional series, and first since 2013.

Offensively, the Cajuns are hitting a .273, along with 56 home runs, 336 runs batted in, and 81 stolen bases in 118 attempts, while out-scoring the opposition, 379-248.

UL is led at the plate by junior second baseman Stefan Trosclair, who is hitting a .333 with 16 home runs, 53 runs batted in, and 15 stolen bases, and junior outfielder Kyle Clement, who will enter the series with a .342 batting average, to go along with 8 homers, 31 RBI's, and 9 steals.

Pitching-wise, Louisiana sports an overall, combined, team ERA. of 3.33, compared to a 5.28 for the opposition, while holding foes to a .245 batting average against.

A couple of freshman headline the Louisiana staff, in left-handed starter Gunner Leger, who is 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA., and right-handed reliever Dylan Moore, who is 3-2 with a 1.42 ERA., along with a school-record 13 saves.

Both were recently selected to the 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team.

The Tigers are currently hitting a .319 as a team, to go along with 47 homers, 394 RBI’s, and 123 stolen bases in 159 attempts.

LSU is paced at the plate by junior outfielder Andrew Stevenson, who is hitting a .368 with 21 steals to his credit, and sophomore first baseman Chris Chinea, who is batting a .367, to go along with 11 homers and 58 RBI's, which leads the team in both categories.

On the hill, the Tigers feature right-hander Alex Lange, the 2015 National Freshman Freshman of the Year, sporting a perfect 11-0 record, to go along with a sparkling 1.76 ERA., and left-hander Alex Poche, who is 8-1 with a 3.05 ERA.

LSU, as a team, has accumulated a team ERA. of a 2.84, while holding opponents to a .228 batting average against.

Game two of the series will be on Sunday night, at either 5 or 6 o'clock.

A third game, if necessary, would be played on Monday, at a time to be determined.
