Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun football team returns to the gridiron on Saturday evening, when coach Mark Hudspeth’s squad plays host to the South Alabama Jaguars in a Sun Belt Conference match-up.

The game, which will be the conference opener for Louisiana, will mark the 5th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the series even, 2-2.

South Alabama won the last meeting between the two, capturing a 32-25 triumph in Mobile, Alabama last year.

The Cajun Harley Davidson Tailgate show, begins at 4 pm on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com, with the rest of the network, including Hot 107.9 and 1079ishot.com, joining the broadcast in time for the Southside Honda Pregame Show, which will begin at 5 o’clock.

Kickoff time at Cajun Field is set for 6 pm.

Louisiana, who defeated McNeese St., 30-22, in non-conference action last Saturday at Cajun Field, is 1-1 on the young season.

Offensively, the Cajuns are averaging 20.0 points-per-game, along with 328.5 total yards, 150.5 rushing yards, and 178.0 passing yards, while allowing 33.5 points, 474.0 total yards, 128.5 rushing yards, and 345.5 passing yards.

Louisiana is led by senior quarterback Anthony Jennings, who has completed 36-of-54 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns, and senior running back Elijah McGuire, who has rushed for 185 yards, after compiling 1,058 yards, along with 13 touchdowns, on 210 carries in 2015.

South Alabama, who dropped their Sun Belt Conference opener last week, after falling to Georgia Southern, 24-9, will enter the match-up at 1-1, overall, and 0-1 in league play.

That victory that South Alabama has was a 21-20 road win over Mississippi St. in their season opener.

Offensively, the Jaguars are averaging 15.0 points-per-game, along with 365.5 total yards, 83.5 rushing yards, and 282.0 passing yards a contest, while allowing 22.0 points, 411.5 total yards, 140.0 passing yards, and 271.5 rushing yards.

South Alabama is paced by sophomore quarterback Dallas Davis, who has completed 45-of-76 passes for 564 yards and 2 touchdowns, and senior running back Tyreis Thomas, who has rushed 103 yards, including a touchdown, on 16 attempts.

The game marks the final game of a three-game season-opening homestand for the Cajuns, who will be on the road for the first time this season, next week, when they travel to New Orleans to take on the Tulane Green Wave.
