This morning when Allen Blanchard, Director of Operations and Human Capital for the St. Martin Parish School Board, sits down to work he will be doing so as acting superintendent of St. Martin Parish Schools. Allen was named to that interim position after the St. Martin Parish School Board voted last night to terminate the contract of Lottie Bebe.

Bebe has served as St. Martin Parish Superintendent of Schools since 2013. Last night the board opted to terminate Bebe's contract which had been renewed on a month to month basis since 2017. The vote was 6 to 4  in favor of terminating Bebe's agreement.

According to reports Bebe has retained legal counsel as a result of the dismissal. KATC TV 3 is reporting the attorney for Bebe says the termination of Bebe was illegal since her contract was listed as a discussion item on the board agenda and not an action item. There are also concerns from Bebe's camp that the board did not allow for public comment on the issue and Bebe was not given 90 days notice.

There had been rumblings that several board members had been dissatisfied with Bebe's performance and the performance of the school system overall.

Blanchard, who will assume the superintendent's role immediately has been a part of the St. Martin Parish School system in several capacities over 28 years says he is not planning on making any drastic moves. He is encouraging school system employees to go about their jobs as usual.
