Although you probably wouldn’t recognize Max Page, you have almost certainly seen him before. The 7-year-old played miniature Darth Vader in Volkswagen’s 2011 Super Bowl ad, a spot that is among the most popular in the history of the Big Game.

After the commercial aired, Max made an appearance on ‘Today,’ where his mom revealed he had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect at birth and has since worn a pacemaker.

Tomorrow, Max will undergo his eighth heart surgery. This one will replace his pulmonary valve — which hasn’t grown since he was a baby — with a donor valve more suited for someone his age.

“He’s scared and he’s nervous,” his dad, Buck Page, explained on ‘Today.’ “Max has not known how good he can feel because of the restrictions of his valve, so this is going to enable him to become even more active, which is hard to believe, and help him out tremendously.”

While replacing the valve should give Max more energy in the long term, in the short term his recovery will restrict his activity. So his parents have “fun-ed up” their house into a series of “themed” rooms which Max can play in while taking it easy.

No word if Max will finally watch ‘Star Wars,‘ which the little boy has still yet to see, during his downtime. See the ad that made Max famous below.
