Just hours after CBS TV announced that Lindsay Lohan would appear on the "Late Show With David Letterman" to present Dave's Top 10 List, Lindsay tweeted; "I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman, I'm not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion."

A spokesman for Letterman's production company said "The Late Show" had been duped."  "We made a mistake," said Tom Keaney of Worldwide Pants.

In an issued statement, Keaney went onto say "Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show... allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear."

Lindsay's father, Michael, has come forward since the misunderstanding as the source behind the plot, telling TMZ that he thought up the idea after Letterman made a joke about Lindsay.
