I've been enchanted with the sound of the electric guitar since childhood. The instrument is prominently featured in much of my all time favorite music. Les Paul was widely regarded as the father of the electric guitar. His invention revolutionized the way music would sound. It's been utilized by many of the all time greats, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Keith Richard, the late Duane Allman to name a few. The first Gibson guitar to bear the Les Paul name was built in 1954. It was dubbed "Black Beauty." Paul used the guitar for more than 20 years before giving it to a friend. NBC News reports, "Black Beauty" will be placed for auction February 19th in New York City. The guitar Eric Clapton used to record his legendary "Layla" album sold for nearly $500,000. I can only guess the price this one will bring.
