As if we didn't already have enough reasons to enjoy the delicious red crustaceans, April is Crawfish Awareness Month in Louisiana! House Concurrent Resolution No. 34 made it official during the 2015 regular session.

According to the actual document...

for more than four hundred years, fishermen have been harvesting the 4 bounty of seafood in the Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana's inland waterways

 

one out of every seventy jobs in Louisiana is related to the seafood 6 industry, which has an economic impact of over $2.4 billion annually for the state of 7 Louisiana

 

Louisiana has over one thousand crawfish farmers and more than eight-hundred commercial fishermen who catch wild crawfish

 

Louisiana crawfish is most abundant during the spring, and boiled crawfish is a Cajun tradition that honors Louisiana's Cajun French heritage

April showers may bring May flowers, but the crawfish are boiling right now! Be sure to enjoy 'em before the season ends!
