The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says they will be working on sections of Highway 90 this week starting on Thursday, October 23.

DOTD officials says they will shift Highway 90 traffic to temporary lanes that are new between Ambassador Caffery and the Albertson's Parkway.

The work in Broussard means they will be focusing on the center portion which is why they are shifting lanes.

Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. workers will be installing temporary striping on the road.

Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. you will see workers installing concrete barriers along the median.

Work on the Eastbound barriers will be done October 23 and 24 with work on the Westbound side planned for October 27 and 28.

Drivers can expect traffic to be down to one lane in both directions while they are putting up the barriers.

Once work is finished on the traffic shift, DOTD officials say the project calls for two lanes of traffic on each side, but each lane will only be 11 feet.

Any load larger than 22 feet is prohibited from going through that area.  Alternate routes for larger loads would be Highways 89, 182, 352 and 31.
All emergency vehicles will still have access to the road, and work is dependent on favorable weather conditions. The planned work is weather dependent, and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.DOTD says this work is part of ther Geaux South construction program.  The goal of the $57.1 million project is took widen Highway 90 to six travel lanes from Albertson Parkway to north of the Ambassador Caffery intersection in Broussard.

In addition to the lane work, DOTD says they will also build a Highway 90 overpass for Albertson's Parkway.
The expected timeline for work before it is finished is expected to be sometime in 2017.
