The name of the group is Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense. They will meet today at the Lafayette Public Library and their mission is pretty clear. They want something done about violence, especially violence involving guns. The group says they are outraged at the lack of political and governmental action in controlling gun violence.

Victory Coy spoke with the Louisiana Radio Network about what the group hopes to accomplish with this grass roots movement.

Acadiana is joining with Americans all over the country to demand that Congress do whatever it takes to prevent gun violence. It’s a national problem and it’s long past time that Congress took action.

Coy said that over 50 other events are being held across the country today with the same singular purpose in mind.#WhateverItTakes is the theme of today's multi-community discussion.

It’s time that our elected officials in Washington listen to their constituents and close the loopholes that make it easy for dangerous people to get guns.

The meeting in Lafayette will take place at 5:30pm tonight at the Lafayette Public Library located at 301 W. Congress Street in the downtown area. The event is free and the doors will open at 5pm.
