Update – Lafayette Drowning Victim Identified In Death At Moore Park

Lafayette Police say 17-year-old Christlyn Willis of Lafayette died Tuesday while swimming in a pond at Moore Park, which is located off University Avenue.

Lafayette Police were called out to Moore Park around 4:00 p.m. after Christlyn went underwater and was not seen again until his body was recovered by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office's Marine Unit.

Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton says, according to witnesses, Christlyn was swimming with another male when they both began struggling to stay afloat. That person was able to get over to the bank of the pond, but Christlyn wasn't. His body was found about 2 hours later by the Marine Unit.

Lafayette Police say the investigation continues.
