It was a beautiful night for the annual Friday Night Parade in downtown Lafayette, but things turned ugly for one float rider.  According to Lafayette Police, the man fell off the top level of the float he was riding on Johnston Street and Whittington Drive.  Spectators said it could have been as high as 3 levels.

Quinn Dejean,  was taken to a local hospital after the severe fall.  Officials and friends of the Krewe he was with contacted his parents due to the severity of his condition.

Dejean is known by his friends and family as a very handsome, kind, friendly and giving man.  The entire community wishes he and his family the best.

What does this mean for the future of parades in Lafayette?  Higher insurance premiums?  Alcohol ban for float riders?  New harness laws?  These are just some of the ideas being talked about on social media today after the tragic event.  One person commented, "Planes go down and people still fly, this was an accident.  No need to have a knee-jerk reaction to on isolated incident".
