Lafayette High School Marching Band Receives National Recognition

The Lafayette High School Mighty Lion Band has been a model of excellence for years. Band director Scotty Walker is a committed, no nonsense kind of guy. That's reflected in the way the band conducts its business. Under Walker's guidance, they've won, or placed well in numerous state showcases & competitions. The Mighty Lion Band is widely recognized as one of the best high school bands in Louisiana. They're now officially recognized as one of the finest high school bands in the country. The Advertiser reports, the LHS band has been awarded the National Programs of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award by the National Band Association. They're one of only four recipients of this award.

I'm proud to say my daughter, Stephanie, was a member of the Mighty Lion Band for 4 years. Before joining the band, she was underachieving at school. The turnaround was dramatic. It's proven that kids who participate in music education at school perform better in math & science than their peers. Any band parent will tell you, it also fosters a sense of pride, accomplishment, and comradery. Wear that green proudly, kids! You earned it.
