I won't add much to the message of Colbie Callait's 'Try' song and video except to say that it's a message I've long believed in. Through the years, as both a man and a teacher, I've watched girls and women struggle with the image of beauty and acceptability that society has established for them. Models, movie and TV stars, and a culture that still largely objectifies women and teaches them that their only value exists in relation to the needs and desires of men. In other words, a woman is beautiful when she changes herself in some way to conform to other people's standards of beauty.

The truth, at least in my opinion, is that a woman's beauty and worth finds its source in the fact that a woman is a woman, a unique and beautiful being that has no peer in all of creation. A woman's appearance is secondary to the beauty that's within. I'm a romantic, but I still believe this is true. Share this with the women (and girls) in your life today.
