New Orleans Saints / Pelicans owner Tom Benson and his estranged heirs have been embroiled in a bitter legal fight since early 2015. Control of more than 2 billion dollars worth of assets has hung in the balance. Benson's children, and grandchildren challenged his competency in court. District judge Kern Reese ruled the aging billionaire competent to manage his own affairs last June. The heirs challenged Reese's ruling in the fourth circuit curt of appeals. The court upheld Reese's ruling, so they took it to the state supreme court. The Times Picayune reports, the state's highest court refused to hear the appeal on Monday, May 2nd. A dispute over ownership shares in the sports teams remains to be settled there will be a trial in New Orleans on June 20th.
