Thirty Four year old Louisiana State Police Sergeant Damien L. Dyson was arrested early Saturday morning by troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A. Dyson was driving westbound on I-10, west of La. highway 22 when his Cadillac struck the rear of a vehicle driven by 21 year old Kevin Gomez-Castellanos at high speed. The crash occurred shortly after 2:00 am. Gomez-Castellanos' Ford Taurus was forced onto the median, where it struck several trees, and flipped over. He was uninjured. Sergeant Dyson didn't stop. He was later taken into custody, and failed a sobriety test, registering a blood alcohol level of .175. Dyson faces charges of careless operation, driving while intoxicated, hit and run, and possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.

Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson issued the following statement: “As law enforcement professionals, we have not only legal responsibilities but also high standards of integrity that must be upheld at all times while serving the citizens of Louisiana. Following a thorough criminal and administrative investigation, the Department will review all findings in this matter and take swift steps to ensure an impartial and appropriate course of action.”
