Kyla Hall Holas Not Interested In UL Softball Coaching Job

You can probably cross one big name off the list of potential candidates for the opening of head softball coach for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

Sources tell ESPN 1420 that former Ragin' Cajun Kyla Hall Holas, one of the best players in school history, is not overly interested in the opening.

Actually, Holas, a former head coach at the University of Houston, from 1999-2016, is not really interested in returning to college coaching at all at the present time, preferring instead to focus on her family.

Things can change quickly, but don't expect Holas to be UL's next softball coach, as the chances are very remote.

As a four-year standout pitcher at Louisiana (then USL), Holas was named a three-time All-American, compiling a career mark of 104-20 inside the circle, while accumulating a .301 batting average at the plate.

For her exploits, Holas was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1999. Her No. 11 jersey is also retired by UL.

In 2011, Holas was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

After serving as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois and Florida, Holas became the first head coach in Houston softball history.

A native of Pasadena, Holas compiled an impressive 563-376-1 record with the Cougars. Her run included seven NCAA regional appearances and two super regional berths.

A two-time C-USA coach of the year, Holas' 415 conference wins are the most in the league's history.

Under Holas, the Cougars won three Conference USA titles, made seven NCAA Tournament and two NCAA super regional appearances.

Holas' best seasons came during back-to-back conference title seasons in 2007-08, with the 2008 UH squad winning a school record 54 games, coming within one victory of advancing to the Women's College World Series.

Ironically enough, it was Louisiana who defeated Houston in the third and final game of that 2008 Super Regional, to advance to the Women's College World Series.

Holas resigned from her position at UH following the 2016 season, after the Cougars finished the season 27-29, the school's first losing season since its debut season in 2001.

Over the summer, Holas served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bandits, of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league.
