Kelly Clarkson Is Eloping
Kelly Clarkson has called off her wedding, but not her marriage.
The singer is foregoing a big, splashy wedding in favor of eloping! The singer revealed that she and fiancé Brandon Blackstock have decided to go a quicker, more streamlined route when swapping vows. No big, celeb-studded ceremony for these two lovebirds.
When Clarkson and Blackstock sent out their save-the-date notice, things went haywire, causing them to re-evaluate the idea of having a big wedding.
“We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions,” the singer said. “We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking.”
Clarkson, whose new single is ‘Tie It Up,’ an ode to the logistics of getting hitched, essentially admitted that she and her man have so much other stuff going on that a big wedding is impractical.
“Then honestly the planning – I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now,” she said, referring to a safe driving program she’s promoting. “We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]‘s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He’s flying everywhere.”
The couple let friends know that they had changed their minds in a fun way. Clarkson said that they “sent out an engagement photo to everyone and said, ‘Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.’”
Clarkson is not bummed about ditching a lavish affair. “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special,’” she admitted.
They will, however, have a celebration with friends and family. “Our friend is throwing us [a party] because we’re about to wrap up construction at our house,” she said. “He’s throwing us a huge stock-the-bar party, so all of the people who were going to be at our wedding will be there.”
So there will be a celebration, just not a traditional one!
