Kat Caillier has been named the 2015 Race for the Cure Honoree and will be the honorary member of Team New Balance for the Susan G. Komen Acadiana Race for the Cure®, Saturday, March 21, in Downtown Lafayette.

Caillier is receiving the honor for her personal perseverance against breast cancer and her dedication to raising breast cancer awareness.

“By participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Caillier and her team members across the country are an inspiration to us all,” said Rob DeMartini CEO of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc

Kat Caillier is a six year survivor, mother of three children and grandmother of 5.  Four years ago, Kat Caillier’s family decided to form a team and raise money in her honor. Kat’s family surprised her with over 30 team members and more than $3,000 raised in her honor on race day.

“I cried through that entire race,” Kat replied in response to her family’s efforts.

While attending a team captain’s meeting this past year, Kat and her daughter Dawn recognized the  importance of raising funds to create a larger impact in the community.

Caillier and her reace team launched “Rai$ing Mud for the Cure” on March 8, 2014 in Breaux Bridge, with over 900 people raising $15,000. The team raised an additional $20,500 by participating in the event’s tailgate competition.

Caillier has set a goal of $30, 000 for the 2015 Race for the Cure and have challenged other family teams and corporations.  The 2015 Rai$ing Mud for the Cure will be held on March 7th.

Caillier and her friends also attend advocacy day at the state capitol to secure further state and federal funding for breast health services and help bring awareness to local communities through educational events.

Komen Acadiana invites the public to Race for the Cure, on March 21 in Downtown Alexandria, as Caillier and over 200 local survivors will remember their journey and celebrate the future.
