The family of a Kaplan nursing student will memorialize their daughter with a scholarship. Mia Trahan's father, Kendrick Trahan, says his daughter was the apparent victim of a murder-suicide on January 8th in Lake Charles.  Mia was a registered nursing student at McNeese State University. She was a graduate of the Gulf Area campus of South Louisiana Community College in Abbeville in practical nursing. The bodies of 25-year-old Mia and 32-year-old Kody Fontenot of Branch were found in a duplex in Lake Charles in January.

The Mia Trahan Memorial Scholarship will be offered to practical nursing students in their final year at the Abbeville campus.  Applications opens March 15th, with a May 1st deadline.

"Mia's passion was helping people. We want to remember Mia by helping a student who shares her passion about healthcare. We want to see this student through to their success."
- Kendrick Trahan

The Trahan family also wants to attend the scholarship winner's pinning ceremony.  To apply for the scholarship can go to SLCC's website and click on Student Scholarships under Quick Links.
