The Biebs goes acoustic! In ‘Turn to You,’ his tribute song to his mother Pattie Mallette, the proceeds of which will be donated to a mom-centric charity, Justin Bieber is at his most butter smooth and his best.

His vocals are breathy and mature, as are the lyrics, with a simple acoustic guitar behind him. It’s a spare beginning, but it’s effective, since Bieber’s vocals have lyrical points to make at first.

He sings about how his mother worked two jobs to keep a roof over their heads and how she was his age when she had him, letting the biographical verse tell his mother’s story. In the the chorus, he lets her know her actions, bravery and sacrifice were worth it, singing, “Let my love take you higher / Cause I still turn to you.”

By the time the second verse kicks in, the song builds its instrumentation, with layered synths and a looped beat. It’s a thicker sound, because by this point, the listener is aware of and realizes it’s an ode to mom. Here, he also references his and Pattie’s rock solid faith.

As the song hits its mid-section, it’s developed in a lush tune with even more instruments and vocal harmonies, giving it a fuller feel. It’s bloomed completely, just like the singer, before fading out.

‘Turn to You’ is not a ‘Believe’ single. It’s a charity release and B-side.

According to Oh No They Didn’t, all proceeds from the track benefit Bethesda Centre, women’s shelter in Ontario that provided aid to Justin’s mother during her pregnancy. The facility is in danger of closing if it doesn’t raise $1.5 million by May 31. Help The Biebs save the center. Or centre, if you want to use Canadian English.
