The Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville celebrates its annual Creole Culture Day on Sunday, June 7 from 10 AM – 5 PM at the historic park at Vermilionville. Vermilionville hosts this free event annually to give the public an opportunity to explore the history and evolution of the Creole community.

Creole Culture Day 2015  will focus on fraternal folklore. Planned activities include: cooking and craft demonstrations, kids’ activities like games and storytelling, canoeing, boat tours, a sharing circle on Creole cowboy traditions, and more.

Music will be provided in the Performance Center by the Lil Buck Sinegal Blues Band and Leroy Thomas & the Zydeco Road Runners plus a Creole Jam in the village led by Wayne Singleton.

Vermilionville and the Catalon Family present a representative of the Creole community with the Richard J. Catalon Sr. Creole Heritage Award each year in recognition of outstanding lifetime contributions to the preservation of the Creole culture and to the community. This year’s recipient is festival organizer, archivist and cultural activist Paul Scott, who is being honored for his stewardship and service to the Creole community.
