In the wake of the Chattanooga shootings that left four U.S. marines dead, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order to arm national guard personnel to protect military facilities.

The executive order, issued yesterday, authorizes the Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard to identify and arm certain Guard personnel who are currently on active duty at military facilities to "preserve the lives, property, and security of themselves and other persons subject to threat of an attack."

Jindal apparently identified the need for the order by acknowledging and commending the National guardsmen whose "uniforms should not make them targets for terrorism without having the ability to defend themselves and other peaceful, law abiding citizens."

Jindal also called for flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff until next Fridayt out of respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks.
