In Louisiana, it takes months to get a simple pothole fixed.  Maybe we should look to the Japanese for guidance.  In the city of Fukuoka, it took repair crews just four days to fix a sinkhole in the middle of a road lined with skyscrapers.  And this was no ordinary sinkhole.

While construction workers were digging under a busy street for the installation of a new subway extension, something went very wrong.  As workers hollowed out the earth 80 feet below street level for the subway extension, a massive sinkhole was created.  It was 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep.  In the middle of a busy street sandwiched between skyscrapers.

Work stopped on the subway extension momentarily to fix the massive hole.  In just four days vehicles were allowed back on the street and two days after that, all utilities had been restored.  Considering the size and magnitude of the accident, getting the job done in just 4 days is mind-blowing.  This time lapse video shows how they did it.
