It’s Our Anniversary!

Sixteen years ago today, January 22nd, 1997, CJ, Debbie Ray & I walked into the studios of 99.9 KTDY and went on the air. It was the beginning of a run that none of us had imagined.

We'd previously been working at a station with very limited technical capability, and subsequently poor coverage of the Lafayette market. We often mused "If only we had a signal like KTDY."  Be careful what you wish for! We were informed in late 1996 that the Owners of KTDY had purchased the station, and the plan was to move us to 99.9.

I'll admit, I was less than enthusiastic. I'd worked here for five years in the previous decade, and had the attitude of "Been there. Done that. Why go back?"  We were greeted with high expectations, and there was tremendous pressure.

Sitting here today, I have to admit, it's all been worth it. Jaycee joined us about a year & a half later. Since then, our radio station has consistently enjoyed uncommon ratings success, and people generally make us feel special wherever we go in Acadiana. We have you to thank for that.

We're approaching our 11th "Polyester Power Party". The CJ & DebbieRay Sailaway has become a much anticipated annual event. The Louisiana Association Of Broadcasters named us Station Of The Year a couple years ago. We're nominated again this year, thanks to you. We often receive very kind letters, phone calls, e- mails & Facebook communication. Words can't express how grateful we are for this! It makes us feel, as Debbie put it, "Married to the market." It's been a crazy ride! Here's to the next 16 years!  Thank You!
