LSU needed a great performance from its pitching ace on Friday.

Alex Lange delivered.

Lange allowed just one run over 7.1 innings as LSU stayed alive in the College World Series with a 3-1 win over #1 national seed Oregon State.

Lange held Oregon State to just two hits during his time on the mound, with four walks and eight strikeouts.

LSU jumped on Oregon State starter Jake Thompson in the second inning as Greg Deichmann doubled to right and Zach Watson singled him to third.  A base hit by Josh Smith scored Deichmann with Watson moving to third.  Beau Jordan's safety squeeze bunt scored the second run of the inning.

Oregon State countered in the bottom of the third when Matt Gretler got a one out double off LSU starter Alex Lange.  Cadyn Grenier walked   Lange got a popup for the second out, but walked Nick Madrigal to load the bases.  Trevor Larnach then coaxed a walk on a 3-2 pitch to score Grenier before Lange struck out K. J. Harrison to end the inning.

The score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh when Smith belted a mammoth homer to right field deep into the bleachers over the bullpen, to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

Freshman Zach Hess retired all five batters he faced in relief, with four coming via the strikeout.
