January 6th is the 12th night of Christmas, the celebration of the Epiphany, when the three wise men arrived with their gifts of gold, Frankincense, and myrrh for the Baby Jesus. It's also the commencement of the Mardi-Gras season in Louisiana. The Daily Advertiser reports the Mardi-Gras flag has been raised over Lafayette City Hall. 2014 will bring a relatively long carnival season, with "Fat Tuesday" falling on March 4th.
The Krewe of Carnival en Rio got an early start on the Festivities. They've already had their ball.There's a full schedule of Balls on tap for Mardi-Gras 2014. Townsquare Media's Krewe De Bayou Red Hot Mardi Gras Ball is set for February 14th, at The District.
