Is July 2 Really Our Independence Day?

It was on July 2, 1776, that the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia voted to approve a resolution for independence from Britain.

Of course, it wasn't until July 4 that the Continental Congress adopted the actual paper that was drafted and (partially) signed, declaring independence.
