Is Beyoncé from New Iberia?  Why did she mention New Iberia in the press conference in New Orleans Thursday?

“My family is from New Iberia, so it really makes me emotional to have a halftime performance — I think of all my heroes,” said Beyoncé at Thursday’s Super Bowl press conference in New Orleans.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she enrolled in performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child. Knowles rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time.

Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles, and maternal grandmother, Agnéz Deréon, were both born in New Iberia.  Deréon was married to Abbeville native Lumis Biyince, after whom the singer’s first name was inspired. Deréon was a seamstress and served as the inspiration for Beyonce and Tina Knowles’ fashion line, “House of Deréon.”

Wearing a sexy black leather and lace outfit, Beyoncé certainly looked bootylicious and sounded great as she sang live during her halftime performance at yesterday’s Super Bowl.
