The Louisiana Legislature moved one step closer to funding the completion of I-49 today when the House voted in favor of two bills to get it done.

The funds would enable the state to complete the north and south portions of I-49. The road stretches north from Interstate 20 in Shreveport to the Arkansas line and south from Interstate 10 in Lafayette to the West Bank Expressway in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, repair projects continue:

On Monday, June 13, and Tuesday, June 14 , 2011, the south bound lane of I-49 in Lafayette Parish between LA 182 and Pont Des Mouton, road will be reduced to one lane from 9am to 3:30pm.

On Wednesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 16, 2011, the north bound lane of I-49 from Pont des Mouton Road to La. 182 will be reduced to one lane of traffic from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

DOTD reports these closures are necessary for roadways repair work and I, for one, am glad they're getting it done before we get into the thick of hurricane season!
