How To “Break-In” New Boots
I took a trip to Fort Polk recently and purchased a new pair of combat boots, and now wished that I knew this trick to breaking them in when I was in the Army!
Unlike many people who get out of the military, I didn't toss, burn or sell any of my gear. I still have my original issue BDUs, shoes, Class A uniform, hats and combat boots.
I found my combat boots at my parents' house a few years back, and would wear them from time-to-time; the first time being the Christmas Parade in Lafayette when they honored the veterans. (I was able to fit into my BDUs, too!).
When I got a motorcycle last year, I started to wear my combat boots every time I rode. I've used them enough to cause cracks through-and-through the soles, so it was time for a new pair.
I made a trip to Fort Polk yesterday, and took that opportunity to purchase a new pair. Wearing them today, I totally forgot that "breaking them in" was a thing; they are digging into my shins!
There are a few different suggestions to be found online on how to properly break in your boots, including using oils, water, even a hammer.
This method seems to have the most "likes", so-to-speak; many current and former military personnel stand by soaking your boots in water and "walking them dry" a few times.
