If you haven't heard or read the news, Bisbano's owner George Petro is being sued by Liam Doyle and The Advocacy Center of Louisiana because Petro's restaurant does not provide adequate facilities for those with physical disabilities.

The Daily Advertiser reports that Petro cannot afford to make the adjustments to his restaurant that would make it more user - friendly for those in our community like Doyle.

I'm not privy to any information besides what is mentioned in the article above. I do feel, however, that there is a better solution for Doyle, Petro, and the Lafayette community, one that doesn't involve nasty litigation.

George Petro likely has numerous contacts in Acadiana as the owner of one of Lafayette's oldest and best - known eateries and music venues. Likewise, The Advocacy Center of Louisiana also has numerous contacts with various local figures and organizations. Why not organize a fundraiser for the monies necessary to make the changes to Bisbano's? Any number of possibilities are available. I'm sure a number of the musical acts that perform at Bisbano's would be willing to see some of their fees go towards a noble cause.

This entire situation can be a win - win for all involved: Bisbano's can become fully accessible to all people in our community, including Liam Doyle, and George Petro will likely see increased business as a result.

Let us know if you'd support such a fundraising effort to keep Bisbano's in business by making it accessible to everyone in Acadiana!
