The commander of American Legion Post #69 sent this message to us this morning:

SURRENDER IS NOT IN OUR CREED! Rain or shine HONORFEST 2014 IS TODAY! As veterans we are taught to improvise, adapt and overcome any challenges we may face. And a little rain will not deter this community from celebrating our Veterans and Military Families! We will move the festivities indoors if the weather deems necessary.- Daniel J. Bentley, Commander, American Legion Post 69.

In celebration of our veterans, this year American Legion Post 69 is hosting Lafayette’s inaugural “HONORFEST”, at American Legion Post 69, 1501 Surrey Street in Lafayette.

There will be food, bands and veteran festivities, including BBQ, jambalaya, kids activities, letter writing tent, raffle, auction and music by Dirt Road and Creole Soul and a special attempt to break a Guinness World Record during the festival!

The American Legion Post is trying to break the record for the largest “High-Intensity Interval Training” class!!

Here is the exact routine that will break the record:

  • Low Intensity - 30 seconds of marching in place
  • High Intensity - 30 seconds of Burpees + 30 seconds of high knees
  • Low Intensity - 30 seconds of marching in place
  • High Intensity - 60 seconds of deep squats
  • Low Intensity - 30 seconds of marching in place
  • High Intensity - 60 seconds of Jumping Jacks
  • Low Intensity - 30 seconds of marching in place
  • FINISHED!!

A minimum of 250 people are needed to complete the 5 minute routine, and there will also be an on-site registration.

The first 350 people to register and complete the 5 minute class will receive a beautiful challenge coin to celebrate your participation, and anyone 16 and over can participate.  One idea is to sign up with your office crew, sports teams, running groups, church groups, or your family to help break the record and honor our veterans!

Another way to help the event is to share the information on Facebook.
