A number of Acadiana consumers look for part - time or seasonal work as the holidays approach, hoping to earn extra money for their own holiday spending. The Better Business Bureau Serving Acadiana warns that scammers are targeting seasonal workers. These scammers send out fake emails offering seasonal jobs but are instead out to steal identities.

These scams work by when a consumer gets an email that seems to be an authentic recruitment email from a big box retailer. These emails may even contain company logos, signature blocks and a reply email address.

Once a job seeker replies, scammers from overseas acquire their personal info and use it for identity theft purposes.

The Better Business Bureau of Acadiana encourages job seekers to avoid generic looking emails and visit the official sites of retailers for job information. Click here for more tips on protecting your identity this holiday season.
