Believe it or not, this Memorial Day weekend will not be a total washout for those planning to travel to beaches of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. There will be rain and there will be some wind but perhaps the biggest threat to your life you won't be able to see.

That threat is a rip current. These narrow channels of fast-moving water can literally suck a swimmer in shallow water right out to sea. High surf usually is a catalyst for these deadly currents that can be found along almost any coastline.

Officials in the coastal counties of Florida and Alabama have already posted warnings about the dangers of rip currents for beachgoers this weekend. I have personally experienced rip currents when the weather and the waves weren't nearly as bad as they are expected to be this weekend. So please heed these warnings.
