Help a Child Learn to Love Reading
How much difference does extra reading practice make for first- and second-grade students who struggle to read? A lot! Nearly 80 percent of students paired with a United Way Reader improved their overall reading scores. Being part of that impact is easy. Simply sign up to become a United Way Reader and attend a training. Volunteers then work with students they’re paired with for one hour per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. If you’re sick when you hear about the troubles in our schools, dedicate just 10 hours and make a real difference. Ten total hours of your time- one hour a week for ten weeks can help a child succeed in school, and in life!
