May 10th is National Shrimp Day, according to nationaldaycalendar.com. Sometimes I think every day in Louisiana is National Shrimp Day. Some people in Maine may beg to differ, but nearly half of the shrimp sold in the US comes from the Gulf of Mexico. I'm willing to bet we prepare and serve it more ways than anywhere in the world. I have a piece of advice. Always check to find out where shrimp comes from before buying it. There are reasons imported shrimp is cheaper. The quality is not only inferior. Some of it may be hazardous to your health. Avoid shrimp from China & Vietnam. They're raised under unsanitary conditions, and treated with antibiotics that are illegal in the US. Whether you like it fried, in a po-boy, etouffee, seafood gumbo, fettuccini, boiled, or in a salad, Bon Apetit!
