Sometimes it seems we have a day set aside to recognize almost anything that ever existed. That being said, I think it's especially important to set aside a day to recognize children "born in the middle of families." After all, we get precious little recognition, right?! Yes, I'm a "middle kid" (3rd of 5). To make matters worse, both older siblings are brothers. The younger ones, both sisters. Don't worry, I'm fine. No "middle kid syndrome" here!  It's widely believed birth order has a pronounced effect on one's personality traits, with the first born being a leader, the youngest, the "baby" of the family, leaving the middle kid to struggle for an individual identity. Middle kids tend to be "people pleasers,"  often driven to excel. Four time NFL MVP Peyton Manning is a middle kid. National Middle Kids Day" was created in the 1980's by Elizabeth Walker. Originally, it was designated for the second Saturday in August. It's since been changed to August 12th. If you're a middle kid, here's to ya'! WE know we're special.
