Happy National Martini Day!

I was browsing Facebook when I encountered a status that caught my eye. Old friend, former co worker, former roommate, Ed Dufilho, posted that today (June 19th) is "National Martini Day"!  Martinis are quite popular here at 99.9 KTDY. Debbie Ray likes quite a few variations, while CJ & I are a little more traditional. We aren't purists, however. Martinis are traditionally made with gin. We prefer vodka. I like mine, dirty, James Bond style, "shaken, not stirred." A few years ago, after an admittedly hard night, I ordered an extra dry, extra dirty martini in a New Orleans hotel bar. After a couple sips, I sensed something wasn't quite right. It was made with gin! I hadn't thought to specify vodka, because gin martinis don't exist in my social sphere. I asked the bartender for "another one just like that one," but with vodka. They were awesome! I had three. He didn't charge me for the one made with gin. I left a generous tip.
