Canada didn't have to fight a war to gain their independence from the British crown like we did. The Constitution Act made Canada an independent nation on July 1st, 1867. Many Louisiana folks have a connection to our northern neighbors. Cajuns, as we know, are descended from French settlers who were driven out, and migrated south centuries ago. I was born & raised near the Canadian border. Perhaps that's why I feel so at home in Acadiana. there's a prevalent attitude that's quite similar to the Jois de Vivre Cajuns are known for. Canada has given us the Lear Jet, snowmobile (Those are quite popular where I spent my youth), Sea-Doo, hockey, Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Rush, Steppenwolf, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Guess Who, Gordon lightfoot, William Shatner (Cap't kirk) and several good brands of beer & whiskey. Happy Canada Day!
